ok so longstory short i had my 1997 eclipse stolen 2 years ago and today walking down the street i see it in a parking lot of a body shop. I called the police and they came and looked at the car. After about an hour of them looking at it they tell me its not mine! I KNOW IT IS. SAME BLUECUSTOM PAINT(originally silver)< SAME BODY KIT < SAME DENTS AND SCRATcHES that i put in it. THey told me they checked 3 of the vin numbers and they dont match mine. Nothing worse then to be told by the cops that your stolen car right in front of you is not yours! They told methat this car was a 1999 silver eclipse and registered tothe guy at the bodyshop. so i figured being that its at a body shop they would have no problem swappin vin numbers.

so my questions
so where are all the vin numbers on a 97 eclipse?
is there anyway to tell the difference between a 97 and a 99?
is it possible to swap all the vins without someone being able to tell?
any thing else that might help..?

engine number. it should match your vin number. unless they drilled that off or changed that too or swapped motors.

 

im pretty sure the transmission has it on there too.

 

thank maybe that could help. where at on the engine is the number? I had to replace the trans myself so i know thats not the same. and spots on maybe the frame thats stamped with the vin or what would be the harest vin to swap?

 

in order to be re-registered they would have had to swap the vins on the car. One of the hardest VIN's to get rid of is on the chassis. But i believe its hard ot see. Also if you have pics of your old car that would be a good way to show things

 

yes the stickervin on the door frame, on the firewall next to where the battery is, and a sticker under the hood have all been replace and you can tell too cause the little void things are showing! ya and the on on the dash board is missing! yet the cops say there is no way its mine. i have picture on my myspace if you want to look at them. its not hard to tell that they been tamperd with. myspace.com/robseclipse . the file is to big to post on here. so where at on the chassis is it? and yes im looking for a picture but none exist anymore that i know of. i had picture on a old laptop that died.

 

You can also figure out by the computer code for both the interior and engine bay. Both are stamped by the dealers to identify what year, model, and all that jazz. As well as stock cd players.

 

well i found pictures of my car and took it down to the police station, along with the pictures of the vins on the car right now and you can tell they been tamperd. but no doubt the picture of my car before it was stolen is the same car i just took pictures of. so ya they are gonna investagate the car now. ABOUT TIME THEYLISTEN TO ME! but ya they are try to do a total 97 eclipse rs to 99 eclipse gs. they got the back hatch from the 99gs so now has the back wipersand the drivers door is from the gs so ir has power windowsand the passanger door is still the rs crank window but they got the gs electric window door panel on it. dosnt work but almost looks like its got a power window. crazy stuff!!

That's good to hear! Get that bastard! I hope this works out in your favor. The setup of the car now sounds so ghetto.
