i have a 98 gst with greddy turbo and other mods and i have been getting spitting from the motor in second gear starting at about 4500rpm to 5500rpm andif i keep getting on it, it cleans out more and more untillthe sputteris almost gone.if anyone has an ideah of what could be going on that would be great thanks

 

do you have a way to tune? safc or DSM link?
wideband gauge really helps so you can tell whats goin on

 

maybe time for new plugs

 

i was thinking ignition also. check your plugs. if they are bad, changing ur plugs and wires isn't a bad idea. do you know the last time you changed your wires? also, you say greddy turbo and other mods... can you be a little more specific. if you have intake, exhaust and a t71 turbo we will know exactly what your problem is lol. so give us a list and let us know if it's tuned or not. these will let us narrow the problem down. thanks.

 

Id say change both the plugs and wires because i had the same issue and the plugs werent the problem, it ended up being the wires. So id just do both. Do you know what turbo you have and a mods list.

 

i also had a similar problem... although neither of the 2 were the problem... i went from plugs, to plug wires back to the distributor coil. the coil prongs were rusted and coroded all to hell so i replaced the coil pack and works beautifully now!

 

Is it just me.. or does it sound like maybe a fuel system problem? Maybe the filter? Possibly the pump is going and when he gets on it... well... wait... it only happens in 2nd? If it were the plugs youd think it would do it all the time at those RPMs...

 

well i think if it were a fuel problem then it would be more of the car just dying rather than just sputtering. Thats why i think ignition

 

Second thought, youre prolly right... when my alt./batt. on my Talon was F'ed up it would spit and sputter like that

 

if it were the battery it would be donig it constantly, not just at a certain point and time.
