Looking at buying an eclipse for my daily driver, how reliable are these cars? My freind had a 2nd gen. and was always having tranny problems...?

trans problems arent a usual problem with any year of eclipse...thats just his.

But on the reliability scale of 1-10, they deserve something like a 7 if their mileage is below 80k, then about 6 below 115k, then pretty much once youre above that, everything starts going to hell, and youre looking at a 5 out of 10 on the dependability scale.

Theyre fast and cheap, but werent made with really long lasting parts.

Of all the generations the 1st was the strongest. if youre looking at 3rd gens and above, theyre nothing like the first and second. They should have given them a different name, for how many differences they have.

I would say that the 3g rs or gs is the most reliable. Personally I never had something just break on me with the 420a. I would say their a bit more reliable then a 6 or a 7, on another site a member has his 2g already over 200k and its still running strong. ITs like any other car, of you treat it right it will last a long time.

thats true, ive got a 00' rs and the only thing thats ever gone wrong is my clutch slave cylinder popped a leak. its got 95k miles on it so i'd probably have to give it a 9

okay let me rephrase then....The FAST ones arent very dependable the SLOW 420 is quite dependable
