Default How do you reset 420a timing?

My friend scanned my car, and it said the timing was at like 8, and he said it should be at 13-15. is this easy to do, can I save some money, or does a shop need to rip me off?

matching the pulleys together or the flywheel to the crank, look for the lil arrows physically engraved on the engine and pulleys

if your friend is using a computer scanner to read timing, it will vary depending on temp, RPM, load, where did your friend get this idea? that just shows where the ECU is firing at.
you cant adjust it on a 420a, its computer controlled , unless your timin belt has jumped a tooth (and it would run like crap)

He needs a timing belt.
And possibly some head work foer bent valves.

Remove the valve cover and turn the crank until the get to top dead center.
The timing marks should then be aligned. Install new timing belt, and replace the idler and tensioner pulleys.

The timing is electronically controlled. You would have to really knock the motor around one good time to skip a tooth or more. What makes you think that you knocked it out of timing?
Your IAT shows hot, do you have an aftermarket short RAM intake? If you do, then your motor is sucking up the hot air in the engine bay and can make your car run poorly...not by itself though. So, there could be something down the line that is out of whack. When you rev the motor, while holding revs, how does the motor sound? When was the last time this motor had a tune up? There's just so much more to consider before jumping to jumped timing.

Cause the guy at the shop told me it needed to be?

No, it has a CAI, AEM. I juss replaced wires and plugs not to long ago, along with fuel filter, fuel injectors.

My tensioner pulley does squeek? But i was told that wouldt make a diff?
