Default I NEED HELP TRYING TO MODIFY MY CAR

<SPAN class=post><FONT size=2>HI,,,,I'M TRYING TO MODIFY MY 97 MITSUBISHI GST TURBO CAR,,,LET ME EXPLAIN WHAT I HAVE ON IT SO FAR, SO FAR I HAVE BLITZ EXHAUST SYSTEM, MODIFIED AIR INTAKE, STOCK TURBO, STOCK CLUTCH, STOCK ENGINE,,,,SO I CALLED THIS IMPORT RACING PLACE UP AND I WAS ASKING THEM ABOUT THE COLD AIRINTAKE AND THEY SAID THAT I DON'T NEED ONE BECAUSE I HAVE A TURBO,,,NOW IS THIS TRUE?

SECOND: HE SAYS THAT IF I UPGRADE MY STOCK TURBO TO HAHN RACE CRAFT 16G TURBO, I WILL NOT PASS THE EMISSION TEST, IS THIS TRUE?

THIRD: I WAS THINKING ABOUT MAYBE SINCE IF I UPGRADE MY TURBO AND WILL NOT PASS SMOG DURING THAT TIME ,,,MAYBE I SHOULD JUST STAY WITH THE STOCK TURBO,,BUT GET THE TURBO CONTROLLER BOOST GAUGE AND DO THAT INSTEAD,,,IS THIS MAYBE THE BEST WAY TO GO? I REALLY WANT MY CAR TO GO MUCH FASTER THAN WHAT IT IS DOING RITE NOW.

4TH:HE ALSO TELLING ME ABOUT GETTING NEW CAM GEARS: OH BY THE WAY WHAT THE HELL IS CAM GEAR???LOL??


I'M SORRY I ASK SO MANY QUESTIONS,,BUT IAM NEW TO THIS AND I REALLY NEED HELP TO EXPLAIN TO ME IN DETAIL,, AND THE THING ALSO IS THAT I HAVE REALLY LIMITED AMOUNT OF MONEY TO DO ALL THIS UPGRADES BUT I WOULD LIKE TO ASK ANYONE HERE WITH THE MOST TRUE KNOWLEDGE ABOUT SPEED AND TURBO KNOW HOW,,, AND WHICH WAY IS THE THING THAT I SHOULD DO FIRST? CAM GEARS? UPGRADE TURBO? HIGH PERFORMANCE CLUTCH? BOOST CONTROLLER? ,,,,YOU KNOW ,,,,,TO REALLY SEE THE HORSE POWER DIFFERENCE, SINCE IAM ON THE BUDGET AND WANT MY CAR TO GO FAST,,,BUT SLOWLY IT WILL BECOME THE BEAST THAT I KNOW IT WOULD BE,,,THE GUY AT THE PERFORMANCE SHOP SAYS IT WILL COST $4000 EASILY TO DO ALL THIS STUFF, AND IN SOMEWAY I GUESS I WILL BE DOING ALL OF THAT,, BUT I HAVE ABOUT $1000-$1500 RITE NOW THAT I CAN PLAY WITH,,,,,,,,ANYONE HELP ME,,,,,TO SPEND THIS MONEY THAT I HAVE WISELY TO SEE AN INSTANT IN HORSE POWER GAIN,,,,,,,HELP HELP HELP,,,,THANK YOU,,,,I NEED ALL THE HELP I CAN GET.<IMG src=smileys/smiley19.gif border="0"></FONT></SPAN><SPAN class=gensmall></SPAN>

About cam gears you have 2 if your engine is DOHC (double over head cam) your saying that you have standard ones you can upgrade to performance ones which would adjust the timing of your engine and increase power. <IMG src=smileys/smiley20.gif border="0"></P>


With the cold air intake system may i suggest buying a bigger intercooler would increase horse power and just have a pod airfilter for the start of the air induction which he is meaning you don't need a cold air intake cause you already have a intercooler which does the same thing. </P>


Theres alot of performance mods you can do to your engine eg.bigger fuel injectors, racing flywheel the list goes on and can go up to $20,000+ moding your engine depends on how much you want to spend on it. Hope this helps.</P>

I guess my real question is also what is the first thing that i should do? That for sure will get my moneys worth it. Since there is so many things you can do to make my car go faster. But you know i have 1000-1500 dollars rite now so just want to make good use of it and see the difference right away. Any Body Else?????????????????????????????????????? It is possible for your car to pass emission testing with an upgraded turbo, but you will have to get it tuned. Tuning will prob. cost you a pretty penny by itself and will push you wayy above your limit.

1st mod i'd would start with is a bigger intercooler and turbo upgrade like Spyderman9803 sugessted there the most gain in horse power. <IMG src=smileys/smiley20.gif border="0"></P>

For $1500, you can get a nice Fmic, 16g w/install kit and injectors, and a pocketlogger. The 16g will give you power, the fmic will help you get it more efficiently, and the pocketlogger will help you tune the whole setup. You car can definitely pass emissions with a bigger turbo. I wouldn't recommend an HRC turbo tough, Go for an EVO 16g for better driveability and some more top end. HRC is a good company, but they seem to be more in tune with 420A's than 4g63's. Wow, a blitz exhaust system? That must have costed you a kidney or something. They're way expensive. Anyways, the pocketlogger is a full fledge datalogger, so it will help you tune your setup. It's actually one of the most useful devices for dsm's(save DSMlink, but that's &gt;$600). For an FMIC, i'd go with a Spearco core and custom endtanks and piping. It's sounds expensive, but it really is a little cheaper than going namebrand. If you want a good no hassle intercooler, i'd give the nod to an XS Engineering FMIC. Very reliable and also somewhat cheap. Remember, the more knowledge you have, the faster you can go. Visit the VFAQs and read up on DSMreviews before you purchase your mods.</P>

DAMN,,thanx guys,,,you guys know alot of s**t,,,,wish i would of start sooner,,,just wondering,,why you say Evo III big 16 turbo?? what's wrong with hahn racecraft 16g?? please explain in simple terms,,okay guys??? i'm newbie,,,thanx oh almost forget since EVO Lancer is like 270HP stock,,does that mean i will have that HP added on ??? If i'm going with the EVOIII big 16g??? <IMG src=smileys/smiley17.gif border="0">i'm not a drag race driver but like to beat fords and neon on the street and that is really the goal,,here,,,so explain,,,which one will do the job,,,lol!!!! i know i'm crazy,,just like all you cats in here,,,,thanx,,,let's here it,,,,dudes,!!!!!

Well, the reason for the Evo16g is because it has some great characteristics. It spools quicker than a regular 16g and flows more top end too, in simple terms. The HRC 16g is good, but HRC is dedicated to the 420A. Although turbo's are universal, HRC seems to gear their stuff towards the 420A. But that's my opinion. Now you won't just bolt on a turbo and get to 270hp, you have to have supporting mods. You won't realize the full potential of a turbo until you have all the supporting mods.
