Well, uhhh....i have a Spyder GS.....get it? Anyways, you're not upgrading the turbo, you're replacing it. The turbo costs like $750 or somethingthe last time i checked. A bigger intercooler.....well listen that's a whole new topic. Bigger isn't always better. For instance, the Supra TT has 320hp crank. However it still uses a SMIC. The Supra SMIC can support 400hp crank, so size isn't all there is too it. It may not be asefficient at 400hp, but it still works well enough. An Evo16g can get you to the 300whp mark, if that's your goal. This stuff isn't cheap though.

Yeah....you don't wanna be like brian o connor. You want to be like Dave Buschur or John Shepard. Alright, you want to know more than can be written in one post. But here goes though. An FMIC is Front Mount InterCooler. You can guess that SMIC is Side Mount Intercooler. Nothing is wrong with the HRC 16g. Personal preferences, that's all. If you've researched the turbo and you like it's specs, then go ahead and get it. Now for the turbo....you're kinda confused. The evo16g is a 16g turbo that was use in the evo3. It's specs are different from other 16g's but it's still a 16g and in the TD05 family, just has a slightly different Compressor housing and wheel and turbine housing.. You can "build" your own Evo16g, however you're prolly not anywhere near that level. Now, as for the Intercooler, it doesn't add hp. It helps you run higher boost levels which it turn equals more power. After the intake charge is compressed by the turbo, it goes through the intercooler to cool down. See, the turbogets extremely hot from the exhuast gasses passing through it, so it heats up the intake charge. The intercooler has outside air rushing through it when the car is moving. When the intake charge enters the intercooler, it passes through the the intercooler and the heat gets dissipated from the air rushingover and throughthe intercooler. So you get a colder intake charge. An engine cannot operate efficiently on hot intake air, so the colder the air, the better. Now you understand how an intercooler works. Guy, if you don't mind me asking, how old are you?

C'mon guy, i'm not trying to insult you, but you wanna know all the answers to the hard questions without knowing the basics. You gotta learn the basics so the harder things, such as turbo sizing and ic efficiency, won't be a problem for you to understand later on. First of all, you gotta figure out what you wanna do with your car. We all know that you want to make it faster, but for what? Drag racing or autox? You can set upyour car to do both, but there's a point where you need to pick either side.As for theEvo16g, theturbo used in the currentLancer Evolution8is a 16g, however it's based on the TD04. It's slightly smaller. The "aftermarket" Evo16g is a TD05. The 18g will not blow up your engine. I'm trying to give you the answers you wanna know, but i also want you to understand why things are the way they are. A good reference for you is VFAQS.com. Why do you wanna be like a movie character as opposed to a real person with accomplishments? I don't wanna come off sounding like a jerk or anything, but don't go to a dsm board and idolize the "movie". Or mention that you wanna be brian o connor, defientely not good. Most DSM'ers don't like F&F, plain and simple. You can like whatever you want, but some people might get tired of reading that you wanna be like brian o connor. A lot DSM guys don't tolerate that stuff at all. Ask some of the other DSM guys here, the character and car aren't all that great. But like whatever you like, i won't judge. Sorry if i come off sounding bad or like i'm trying to sound superior, i'm not. I'll help whoever needs my help.

Default RE: I NEED HELP TRYING TO MODIFY MY CAR

i put an HRC Super 16G turbo on my 97 gst with a tanabe hyper racing medallion exhaust, ported exhaust manifold, and greddy type S bov and passed a smog test with no problems and i'm in cali. as long as you don't put the 3" downpipe and high flow cat it should pass emissions with no problems.

Default I NEED HELP TRYING TO MODIFY MY CAR

Hey how is it going SpyderGS? You seem to know alot about cars, and hopefully you can help me. My problem is that I bought this Short Ram Air-Intake. Unfortunetly the piping did not fit my car, and if I force it to fit, the ruber end will eventually tear or fall off. so what I did, was to take out the stock air filter and the box, and just install the aftermarket air filter to the original stock plastic pipe that the cars come with. I still get the same sound, and the car feels like it gained a bit more power, but would it be better to just go get a pipe that will fit? or am I good with what I have? and wouldn't getting a stainless steel pipe heat up faster? and is the object of the thing to keep it cooler?

Thankx alot. for your help
