Intake for 2.4 non-turbo Spyder
Hi all, I havea 98 eclipse spyder GS and I want to replace the intake. Been doing some looking around and it seems like all the intakes are for 2.0 non turbo or forthe turbos, what options are there for the 2.4 GS spyder? I cant spend alot of money either, but a friend who is a mechanic told me that as long as the intake is aluminum - it should be just as good as some of the more expensive ones, of course the k&n and aem are better but I cant afford that. Are there any other free or inexpensive mods I can do? I dont really know much about doing this kind of stuff either. Any advice appreciatted. Nice car, i like your taste. Anyways, there aren't a lot of aftermarket parts for your car....not very many at all. Not even full CAI(cold air intake). The cold air intake includes the filter, maf adapter, and aluminum pipe. The filter and adapter are easy to come by, you can use any made for a turbo eclipse. However, the aluminum pipe for the turbo and non-turbo cars will not fit at all on our cars(i have a 96 spyder). You can use two types of filters; the box type, which looks flat and square; or the cone type which...well...looks like a cone. You'll only need a maf adapter with the cone type filter, since you'll be getting rid of the stock air box. The box type filter fits inside the stock airbox, so you won't need a maf adapter. There is no advatage to using the cone type over the box type filter, just looks mainly. I have a box type filter, but have replaced the stock airbox with an aluminum box. I have a custom ram air setup, so it look rather nice. Since no one makes an intake pipe for our cars, i had the shop that made the box make a pipe to go along with it. If you want a pipe, you'll need to have one custom made. Weapon-R made one briefly for the 94-98 galants, which should fit our cars. However they stopped because their machinery broke or something...You can find them on ebay, but they're super expensive. IMO, just get the cone or box filter and see if a shop can makea pipe for you. My shop did mine for free when they were doing the box, so it shouldn't cost that much.</P>
