Default Looking for some help about Wheels.

I recently bought my first car, '97 Eclipse RS, the guy who owned it before did nothing to it but the regular maintenance required. So everything on or in it is stock, including the crappy 14" stock wheels.(I hate these by the way). So I was looking at some wheels on the net for the past couple of weeks so I can work towards them by earning some money over summer. But I was bombarded with all this terminology I didnt know. So far all I know is that I want 17" wheels (that are not chrome) and something like 5zigen. What else do I need to know, such as which offset I need to buy to make sure they fit. THX.

Your car uses a 5x114.3 bolt pattern.

This mean thats you have 5 lugnuts and their spaced 114.3 millimeters from eachother through the center of the wheel.

40 offset is the closes you can go, which is pretty much as close as you'll be able to get them, anything farther than that will stick the wheels way out side the body.

Be careful about choosing tires though, if you decide to go with an 18' or 17' you'll have to get a 50 rating tire to have enough clearence.

19' will be cutting it really close, anything larger you'll have to do some suspension modifications.

18s use a 40 sidewall I think and 19s a 35

Thanks guys, that helps. Yeah so I dont want to go bigger than 18" b/c the wheels wont be proportional to the car, that would make it look kinda messed up, (unless you put a body kit on it or something). Do you guys have an idea of how much tires would cost that would fit 17" that would look good on the car? Thx

Yeah I'm from Colorado and a huge hockey fan. I've been a sakic fan ever since he won gold in Juniors, like '93 or something.

I applaud you for saying wheels and not rims.

With a 17' wheel you're not going to want to go any higher than a 50 rating tire.... you might get some scrubbing with anything larger. I'm using a 17' R:50 setup right now, I can take pics if you want to see how it looks with a stock suspension.
