Default MAIN ROD BEARING

Hello, I just bought a 1997 eclipse today it has a 2.0L DOCH got 88000 miles on it, carbon fiber hood, coilovers, and aftermarket taillghts and headlights. And for all of that just 1000 bucks. But the problem is that it has a knocking sound on the engine, engine lights comes on andthe rpm is goes over the 2000 mark when its first started then idless down to 1500 for a few second then goes back up to 2000 mark. But my main concern is the knocking on the engine. The guy said he thinks it's the main rod bearing. and if i don't get that fix the car engine will explode. So can anyonetell me on where the location of this main rod bearing and how to fix it. and the parts or labor cost. Or is it true that is the problem is the main rod bearing. Or is it something else. Please help.

There is no such thing as a "main rod bearing"
There are Main bearings (crankshaft bearings)
And Rod bearings. Once it starts knocking, the crank journal will be out of round, the rod will be out of round and poissibly enlarged, so just get yourself another engine that runs and put it in your car. There is no such thing as a cheap fix for a rod knock.basically you have a blown up engine. ****can it and buy one that runs to put in.

im going to agree, not that it cant be fixed, but from what you are saying, you have run it for more than a few seconds, and have started the motor more than once since the "knock" started, that puts you squarely in the "catastrophic failure" areana...
On the plus side, at least you get to buy a new motor
Oh and if you wanting to get rid of it now, let me know, Ill buy it for 250.00

find out exactly where the ticking is comming from. If its from down near the bottom of the engine then its most likely the bearings. How loud is the ticking.

a crankshaft kit usually runs about 225 bucks. Labor, however, requires complete removal and disassembly of the engine.
