Making a 99 GST from automatic to manual

hi, I have a 99 GST which I bought this spring. Unfortunately i cudnt find a manual one in my budget. This car had done 125,000 miles when i bought it, currently its done 130,000 miles. I'm really bored of driving an automatic and wished i had spent more and got a manual. So i've been thinking bout making it a manual, if its possible? Some mechanics at an autospa garage said that i wud have to essentially rebuild the engine and it wud cost me approx $1500. What do you guys think?

The bottom line is that its going to be much cheaper to just sell your GST and a buy GST or GSX with a 5 speed.

But yeah, please use the search. Every week it seems theres someone who is asking that same question.

ok i used the search button, but i didnt learn much more than its not worthit. It takes a lot of time and money. What i want to know is that can i jus get a manual tranny from another turbo eclipse and do it or will i have to get the engine and tranny of that other eclipse?

In my area, within 25 miles of where i live that is, there are 2 GST's both for $11,000+, both with 100k plus miles. There is also a 97 GST with 120 k miles for $2500, but it doesnt work( the guy says it has a short or a relay, car needs to be pushed lol).

I THINK that you just need a manual tranny from another GST, and I THINK that the auto GST has smaller injectors than a manual GST, meaning your going to need injectors and a manual ECU also. I think. If i'm wrong Im sure someone will correct me.

But I agree with sebba, if you want a project that going to be worth it, get the 97 GST. Have the car checked out by your mechanic to identify the problem. If you can fix the short for a fair price, you could also rebuild the motor and maybe do some mods. You'll probably only spend $7,500-8,500 for basically a rebuilt eclipse and some mods, that would be worth your time and money
