Im taking my 99 GST to get a new clutch installed and I asked about resurfacing the flywheel if its in shape to be. The Service Writer said yes if its in condition its cool. The mechanic said something about I need to have the flywheel too because its a 2 part job or something. Is this true? Or can I just have the clutch installed and resurface the flywheel if it can be?

 

You can resurface the flywheel.

But if you have the extra cash, i recomend getting a Fidanza flywheel

 

resufacing it will be fine, like you said as long as its in good enough condition.

 

A two part job? Yes, you can have the flywheel resurfaced, but unless you know what to look for on your flywheel, you're kind of at the mercy of the mech. Keep in mind that you can only resurface a flywheel so many times, just like brake rotors. If either have cracks or large chips, they are tossed. Even a small chip can be reason enough to tossed a flywheel, because the wheel still have to meet certain specs. It's not like they shave off a 1/2" and call it good...that's a lot btw.

IMO a 99 flywheel shouldn't be trashed unless the previous owner had it resurfaced a lot...doubt it though or they had an ACT 2600 or stiffer clutch on a stock flywheel (it could happen).
Go somewhere else and get a second opinion or just have someone else resurface it and tell the other garage to shove their two part job. It should be one streamlined process. Remove old clutch, change pivot ball and fork, resurface flywheel. See, streamlined, lol.
