Okay, first off, you should have checked the code with a logger or taken it to a parts store or mechanic(often will read CEL codes for free). Then, we would atleast have an idea.

But anyways,going by your first post, it sounds like you may have discovered multiple problems with your car while triyng to diagnose one. How much white smoke was it? White smoke,whichis really steam,is a result of water, but you said you smelt fuel. Which would be unrelated to the water. Well, how much fuel did you smell? An exhaust will normally smell like fuel anyways, so don't worry if it wasn't much. But, what's the deal with the fuel coming out of your exhaust? Where in the exhaust? That is notnormal at all.

Changing the idle manually is not a good fix. It will simply mask the problem.You should do your best to put it back to where it was. If it's still running like crap, maybe let it run for a bit and see if it throws the code again. Also, see if anything else unusual happens because right now, it seems like it's all over the place.

If you have a boost leak, that would be the first thing I'd fix. A boost leak will cause all sorts of crap to happen. If you can't "find it" with your ears, spray ome soapy water around where you think it's coming from and look for bubbles while doing a boost leak check.

I totaly agree with Gregorylike i said at the begining of this thread it could be a simple vac/boost leak. start with the basics and weed out the parts that may be in that issue but the cel is prob a p0505 which is your idle system which can be cause from a vac leak if that isnt it it can be juat about any part from the mas to the TB.

lol nice flame. But the fact is 4g63 is still the best 4cylon the market. even to this day i have yet to see another factory 4cyl that tops it not meets it but tops it not bad for a motor that is almost 20years in the making.

I had a problem with hitting high R.P.M's @ high speeds causing the car to go so lean the check engine light would turn on, but when i would turn off, then on, it would go out. The exhaust out of your fuel sounds odd, if it came out of the exhaust it would have ignited form the heat, it shoudlnt have left a puddle. Have you checked your throttle adjuster for the idling problem? Maybe you just hit it by accident looking under the hood...
