Need Help Again!!!!
Ive noticed that lately my sparkplug boot keeps getting forced off of cylinder #1,I will push it back down but as soon as i drive it is forced off again. There is also a tickning noise that i assumed was lifter tick but im starting to wonder, it is rpm dependant and makes this noise sometimes but not always. Anyone have any ideas on what could be causing this?
where is the ticking comming from. If its right underneath the valve cover then its your lifters. And when you say spark plug boot im assuming you mean the wire. Its probably just a crappy wire that is worn. Check the connection on the inside of the wire. Maybe try crimping it a bit to make it tighter on the plug. If that doesnt work you may need to get a new wire. Does it start to misfire because of it or is it just barely off
Thats the weired part, it doesnt really miss at all. The wires are new and i get a tight fit when i place them on the sparkplug, however it gets completely lifted off to where its just barely sitting on top. And the ticking noise does sound like its right under the valve cover but im not sure if its lifter tick, it seems to be alot louder than usual.
The ticking noise is probably coming from your lifter. It's common in our vehicles whether 420a or 4G63T. The lifters were later upgraded with non-ticking lifters (aka Evo lifters or the pt. cruiser lifters).
As for your plug boot, is it coming off while the motor is running or when you simply push/pull your plug wire? If it's while the motor is running, you're getting "blow by" somehow. You might want to check the rubber "O" seal under the bottom side of your valve cover. If it's the latter, you just need to replace your wire because the insulator is worn out already.

Yea it only does it when the car is running, I will check the seals. Im not sure about the ticking noise though. My car has had liftertick since i got it but this is alot louder than normal. I will get new lifters and see if that solves the problam. Thanks for your help.
in your first post you said that it's rpm dependant... so you don't hear it all the time? at what rpm's do you hear it? and is it more of a tick or more of a rattle sound? i know they sound completely different but if you don't know the difference it could just be a part of your hearshiled or a random piece of metal ratteling. my del sol did it for about a month between 2800 and 3300rpms and it was just a pice of my heat shiled. just food for thought.
