ok here is the deal after a bit of research. for all 1g's and from 97-99 the CPS was on the opposite side of the t-belt. However for some reason on the 95-96 the cps is under the cam sprocket (which is where yours it) so that is the CPS

Okay, to clear it up. Because obviously a lot of these guys don't know what they are talking about...

TheEngineer got it right about the years though. All first gen CAS's were on the left, 95-96 were under the cam gear, and 97-99 went back to the CAS's on the left.

Have you tried swapping the plug wires yet (at the coilpack)? In the order I stated earlier. I'm not sure that the 98 ECU will work. I've got a spare 95 though if that doesn't end up working.

I know for a fact, from personal experience:
-that the 97-99 ECU will work with the 1g CAS on the left side,
- the 95 ECU will work with the 1g CAS but with the wires swapped

So if the 98 ECU can work with the wrong sided CAS then all you should have to do is swap the wires. Let me know if that doesn't work (PM me, I don't check this site that often)

And they are CAM ANGLE SENSORS aka CAS, not CPS which is Crank Position Sensor, TWO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT THINGS.

Edit: How mechanically inclined are you, if at all? Did you do the swap yourself?
