I need some help on assessing the value of my wifes car. We're selling it due to a new baby and I have no idea on what I should list it for. I never really drive it, soAny help is much appreciated. Normally I would go by KBB, but the car has had some past damage and I'm not sure how to allow for that.

Info:
1996 Eclipse GSX AWD Turbo. Purchased in 1999 by my wife with 47000 miles
White with Gray leather interior
Currently has161000 miles and all stock except for some severely curb rashed American Racing 16" wheels
Motor and tranny are original and are running strong with no tranny slip and minor oil burn. Car has never been raced by her.
All function work like A/C, Cruise Controland all power functions. Clean title and I live in SF Bay Area California.

Interior is in decent shape except for drivers leather seat which has severe wear on the left bolster and left seat bottom with 2 holes/tears in the leather. Passenger seat is in good shape with minor crack here and thereand rear seats are even better. Carpets are in good shape, buthave stains which I can probably clean. Power seat functions work fine. Power windows work, but make noise going up and down and seem to be out of alignment but close. They kind of rattle a little bit when i hit bumps. In fact the whole car rattles a little when I hit bumps. Alpine cd player with amp and10" subinstalled in vehicle

Exterior is in fair shape with dings here and there. Thereare a few cracks in the lower fron t bumper from hitting curbs. There is also a6 inch long by 1 inch wide shopping cart dent just behind the drivers door.Vehicle wast-boned on the passenger side door pillar about 5 years ago when my wife pulled right in frontof an oncoming car that was travelling about 15-20 mph. Passenger door and fender were replaced. No frame damage and airbags did not deploy. Repair looks decent, but it's obvious to anyone who knows what to look for, that the vehicle hashad some damage due to paint work. (overspray/orange peel) and also there are a few areas where the fender and door aren't lined up perfectly. Of course I will devulge the accident when I list it. The reality is that the car just had basic liability coverage when the accident occured and since it was my wifes fault, her insurance wouldn't cover it. Probabley would have been totaled out by insurance company if it was under coverage. TITLE STILL SHOWS CLEAN.

Mechanically, the car needs some suspension work. When I drive it, the car rattles when you hit bumps. Sounds like suspension issues as well as plastic interior parts that rattle along with the windows.No suspension work has been performed in the last 100000 miles so I'm sure that bushings/control armsare bad as well as some shocks/struts. There is avibration in the steering wheel at freeway speeds. Brakes are fine andengine and tranny seemstrong.

I'm looking for a quick no hassle sale. What is an aggressive asking price? Feel free to ask any questions and I will try to post photos.

Did you see what the value is on kbb.com or something like that? Iwould say $1500-$2000 since it needs suspesion work.

 

Come on dsm1990, this is a gsx, if it was a GS maybe it would be only worth that. I think you should be able to get around $4000 for it with the right buyer. I was able to get $4800 for my 95 AWD with 130k miles on it and it had some clunking from the suspension. Its all a matter of how fast you need to get rid of it. If you need to get rid of it within a month or two then you may be looking at asking 4k maybe alittle less and hoping for about $3500. Or you can just post it for $3500 looking for the quick sale. If it were me personally buying it i probably wouldnt want to pay more than 3k for it, but it is a GSX so im sure there is someone that is willing to pay 3500-4000 for it.

Location has alot to do with it too, because if your in more of a remote area then they are alot harder to find, making the car worth alittle more.

 

I would start right about $4500.. Looks like its in good shape. Suspension isnt really a big deal.. Prolly just needs new shocks.

 

Its got 161k miles and need suspension work. Could need struts, control arms. That stuff isnt cheap. I would not pay anyore then 2500 for this car. I see 95-96 awd gsx's around me w/ 100k miles go for $2500-3500.


Ay engine bay pics? How do the strut towers look?

 

Thats hella cheap.. You should pick them up for that and resell them.

 

ya up here there like 6-10k for that many miles. looks good just have to find the right buyer. like they said if you are in a hurry to sell of course it will go faster at a cheaper price.
