Default new car

I'm considering buy a 2g eclipse with around 100,000 miles on it i want either a gs or a rs but i dont know the difference between the 2, what should i look for in these cars when i check them out is there anything that goes around 100k miles.

The only difference is the options that each came with such as power windows, ect. But The one problem that those always seem to have is the headgaskets going. So i would check for smoke coming from the exhuast or over heating issues and if there is white gunk under the oil cap. But even if it has it, its a pretty quick fix. Also just do the usual checks. See if it shifts ok, how the engine sounds. How it runs and drive, ect.

what do you mean by that? (assuming you already owned an rs...) did your old RS blow a head gasket? also i want to make sure that you are not looking for power from this car! you CAN NOT extract anything over 140-150whp from these engine without dumping a few grand into them (3k+), just a forewarning

well i was looking at some 2g eclipses on cardomain and i felt like the most whp someone had that was non turbo was 175 and thats what i would want to doo, basiclly as much as i can without turbo'ing the car. I would get a new exhaust intake and was looking at a reflash? that would only get me at 150? what are my other options?

yepp... my head gasget actually did blow... on an automatic... that car bad luck.. after that i already ahd a tranny problem so i got it rebuilt.. only to have it get worst... it would never leave 2nd gear.. so emabarrassing.. after that the cluster gave out.. that car was a crap shack

Just boughta '97 gs. Needs a new head gasket and a few minor things. New oil sender, and the steering rack assembly is leaking very little. Make sure he has replaced the timing belt if not this needs to be done asap.($300-500). Mine has 186,000 miles and these are the only problems I have faced so far.

without upgraded pistons and a shot of nitrous that 175whp is not true. its just not possible unles it's a BUILT BUILT BUILT motor w/ like a huge bore or custom stroker bottom end w/ a very nice head. cold ari intake and exhaust will get you about 10-12whp if that. so assuming that you dyno on a dynojet stock and put down 115whp you are now looking at 125-127whp. you still have to extract 50whp from this motor which is no easy thing to do. also nobody offers a reflash for these cars but you can tune them. by getting a SAFCII you can tune the a/f ratio and extract up to another 7-8whp. if you are looking for 175whp you will need a new set of pistons and a 50-65shot of nitrous.

Maybe cuz not all people can afford a turbo car. Or maybe its just gonna be a daily driver to have fun driving around without the hassle of all the maintenance on a turbo car. Just a few reasons
