Default RE: New to modding and mitsu's....

First off I'd like to thank every one for all your help

I don't want a turbo cause I commute twice a week at ninety all the way. I want a turbo cause when I'm making my bi-weekly commute at ninety and feel like punching it to 140mph, I can I could make the commute at higher speeds in the Camery I have now but ninty is the safe speed. Any faster for any length of time and the airoplane calls in the ground units and then you havta run 70mph cause they send a few Staties to make the ride with you. I did the ride a 110mph the WHOLE way, THREE days in a row and on the fourth day i had a marked escort 4 cars in front and four cars in back for the ENTIRE trip LOL No seriously I know the local PD's liason to Homeland Security and there are in fact TWO airoplanes protrolling my commuter rout. I've even had them buzz me so low I could see the pilot's skin color after I get off the interstate and stop I only make this commute two or three times a week so the noise and rattling things isn't that bigga deal, It's not a ten trips a week commute.

i have reached a desision after a week of research. here is what i've learned.

1. If you're gonna Turbo the 420a. Get a 4g63. The 420a rod and pistons can only push between 300-350hp max. The Hahn turbo kit gives it 275hp. The 4g63 comes stock with 250hp and I've seen a few rides pushin 450hp off the stock rods and pistons.

2. If you are going to turbo a 4g64. Get the 4g63. The cams are larger in the 4g64. Which is great if you don't have a turbo, but it'll help you throw your rod real good if you do have a turbo. Just like Curt in the link provided by The Engineer.

My final decition.

The lady at the insurance company says its $200 dollars a month for the 1999 Mitsu Spyder GS. With 4 cyclinders, 140hp and no turbo. OR it's $215 dollars a month for the 2001 Mitsu Sypder GT-PRE with 6 cylinders, and a turbo. I havn't looked for the HP on this engine but if the 4 cylinder is 250hp with the turbo the six hasta be near or at 350hp. No I don't have tickets and only one wreck three years ago. Insurance is just that high in Louisiana I know some of you out there are reading those rates and thinkin I mean the car note

The difference between the 1999 GS and the 2001 GT-Pre at the car auction is only about $1000 dollars. We were offered one that didn't meet it's reserve for $5,900 today. I didn't have it but it'll be there next week and the boss says he sees Spyders all the time at the auction.

I'm gettin the '01 Gt-PRE

Thank you guys for all your help. Especially The Engineer who provided the link which helped me to decide NOT to turbo a 4g64.

Dont think the 3rd gen eclipse came from the factory with a turbo. The turbo idea with the eclipse ended with the 2nd gen 1999 eclipses..

stupid button posting b4 I'm ready

No this V6 doesn't have a Turbo. And it's only pushing 200 horse.

I see all these ppl who put 1st gen parts on the 2nd gen. Like the head and the throttle body. Has Mitsu regressed even farther with the 3rd gen????

So what's up with this V6????

Can it beat a 2nd gen 1st gen hybrid???? Cause the age of the 1st gen is startin ta bug me. A twelve year old head doesn't sound like my idea of a good time.

So for a preformance car do i wanna go ahead and get the second gen. At dealer auction prices the 2nd gen is only slightly cheaper than the thrid gen. To give you an idea we got the 1999 Spyder GS with 58k and NO ENGINE OR DRIVETRAIN trouble and NO oil leaks for $4,200. We could have a 2001 Spyder Gt w/ preimium package for $5,900. Which means we could probably get the 3rd gen GS for the same price as the 2nd gen. This makes me think they may have grandma'd the 3rd gen up a bit???

For a speed demon do I want a 2nd gen over a thrid??? Not to mention the gas milage savings with the 4 cylinder.

I know the GST doesn't have AWD but at least pullin it off the GSX is an option. Does the GSX have the 420a engine or the 4g63???One I plan too eventually exercise. There's apparently notin much to do to the FWD trani from what I've seen, but the AWD on the other hand has alot of options. Cousre since I'm not makin a track car I'm not sure how far I need to mod the trani.

So that Does it then.

A 1999 Spyder GS-T it will be. Time to start lookin

The AWD drive conversion is gonna be pricy. But this is a car I'm gonna keep at least a decade, if not 4ever.

The dream daily driver Well a soft top isn't every persons idea of a dream daily drive but it's a dream to me

Can you have the cylinder walls in the block resurfaced to restore an old block??? Or maybe chromed for slicker motion???

What about rebuilt 1st gen heads??? I know aplace in florida who can rebuild any ECU. Can heads be resurfaced and redone to make them like new???

heads dont usually need to be redone.. the block can be refurbished... or .."rebult" yes. NOT CHROMED!.

The spyder AWD conversion is popular in the rich people!

Yes the GST is the 4G63

Aw man, shoot. No chrome pistons and glass valve covers lmao

What motors in the GSX????

I just read Car Talk review. The AWD GSX has EIGHT cv joints. WOW. YOU right bout it being 4 the rich

Drivin stock Corrollas and Camerys at high speed over long distance I have very much replacing CV Boot and/or joint experience, and I would like as little more as possible. Speaking of which I have two cracked boots that'll eat a satuday soon They just weren't made 4 ninety everyday So the idea of EIGHT CV joints is so incredibly revolting that I can assure you with utmost certianty that I will own a car dealership b4 I own my first AWD car So it's gonna be awhile

Do they make metal CV boots????? ahhhhhhh lightbulb

Is there any particular year of the 2nd gen that's best???? Or is the last model gonna be the best???

The GSX is also the 4G63Turbo. It ranged from 95-99 and i would recomend the 97-99 ones (they look SEXY as FANK!)
