Default NEWB HERE

HELLO NEW TO THE SITE
JUST PICKED UP A ECLIPSE FROM SOME HORSE TRADING, BUT HAS A BAD ENGINE.IT HAS A MANUFACTURING DATE OF 1988 IN THE DOOR, IM ASSUMING ITS A 89 MODEL.I BELIEVE IT HAS A 4G73 ENGINE. DOES ANYONE KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THIS ENGIINE? IS IT JUNK OR WHAT? ALSO WHAT ENGINE WILL INTERCHANGE WITH IT AND USE THE SAME TRANNY?ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED.

the motor is a 4g63. any model of eclipse 89-94 depending on parts should swap fine. what modle is it GSX GS-T GS RS?

THANKS FOR THE INFO ARE YOU SURE ITS A 63?I WORK AT A MACHINE SHOP AND IT LOOKS DIFFERENT FROM A 63.GUESS ILL FIND OUT WHEN I PULL IT. MY PARTS CATALOGE OFFERS IT IN A 4G37? MODEL ENGINE ALSO.WILL A 4G63 OR 4G64 ENGINE BOLT TO THIS TRANNY? I NEED SOME INFO ON THE ELECTRONICS SWAP ALSO IF I GO WITH A DIFFERENT ENGINE.JUST A NEWB TO THE MITS. LINEUP!

All the 4G63 swaps should electronically not really require much unless you plan on swapping a nonturbo for a turbo or vice versa.

thanks the model is a "gs" if that helps . is there any performance parts available for this?thinking about just rebuilding the engine and selling it.these cars worth anything?

The 4G63 is one of the easier built engines. Especially the 6 bolt block (Which is what you'll have the 7 bolt was '95 and up) there are MANY part available for it out there and it's a rather easy block to work on.

I thought the 7bolt was started in '95 my bad all the info I've been reading on the 2 engines (I'm still not exactly sure on the differences in the 2 other than the alignment pin for the flywheel) I don't remember where I read about the '95 thing I believe it was mentioned in the article psoted in another thread about turbo charging the 4G63

OK , SO I PULLED THE ENGINE AND TORE IT DOWN ,COME TO FIND A WHOLE IN NUMBER ONE PISTON.THIS ENGINE IS A 4G37 CASTING ON IT. ANY ONE KNOW ANY PROS/CONS ON THIS ENGINE.
