Default Opinions Wanted About Car

So im new to eclipses, and new to this forums and i have an importatnt offer.

97 Eclipse GS-T for anly $5000

The guy says it leaks oil but he does not know where from. I will check the car soon. Please let me know if the price is good and things that i should know about the car. Test that i should do to guarantee i dont get a piece of crap. The guy claims that he is selling the car for familly problems(second or third kid on the way) and that is it but i dont know. Again i do not nothing about Eclipses but know about Nissans. I used to drive a 240sx before but never turbo. So please guys let me know about all i could need to know.

Well, if you're cool about the FWD, then it's a good buy. However, @160k it's gonna need some new parts. Mainly suspension parts and various engine seals. Just look it over really good, ya know? Check under the body for rust or dents, look closely at the wheels to see if the lip isdented(might be dented on the other side of the rim too, which usually means he ran it up on a curb. Wheels are gonna be hard to balance and fit tires on properly), look at the oil cap and dip stick to get a "general" idea of how the engine is. If the end of the dipstick is a really hazy brown or looks "burnt" in a way, then the guy could have ran the engine without sufficient oil for a while. Ya know, just check the basics. A 97 gst for $5k is a good buy, but when you factor in the mileage it's somewhat mediocre.

i would still go for it...question, is it an everyday car? or are you wanting to deck it out or something...? but hella yeah thats a good buy, oh yeah do you know anything about the owner? for example: does he take care of his cars?? and ask if the car has maintance records. those are nice to see.
