Default Overheating!!!!

I've been driving my car for 6 months now. A few months ago my car began to overheat every once in a while. My mechanic said it was because of the oil leakage I had, so we had that fixed. And now a yesterday as I was driving home from college, my car started to overheat while I was slowing down to a red light. At first I thought...maybe it's because it's warm weather...and also because I'm not moving so the engine isn't getting air. So then I drove a bit, and the needle went down just a tad bit. And then it began to go back all the way up to the red zone even as I'm driving 60mph constantly. I don't know what the problem is. Could anyone help me with this? Is there any sort of cooling fluid that runs in the engine?

Oil leak... Did he mean coolant leak. Check you radiator to see if you have any coolant in it.It may be your waterWater pump Im not sure of this because Iwhen mine went my car would only overheat when I sloweddown. I was also replace your raditor cap since its a cheap/quick fix. You could also have a clogged raditor they could just pressure test this. Do you smell coolant when your driving?

do you smell coolant? is ur coolant level down?? if not i would say it's a thermostat. if your coolant is low than it could be a bad gasket somewhere or a bad hose, check around for the leak and fix it.. hopefully its not the radiator, buti doubt it

check all your hoses, check for leaks anywhere, if the car starts to heat up when your at a stop its most likely the water pump its on its way out, mine was doing it when it was on its way out, I then changed the pump then was STILL overheating the new pump was i guess more pressure and a hose was leaking water, I changed the hose and that was the end of it
