Alot of times the fuel filter is to blame for high RPM sputtering. Your engine needs more fuel to run in the top end and the filter is choking it. When was the last time you changed it?

It could also signify a problem with the fuel pump itself. If the upper end up the fuel pump is going then it could cough and sputter because the pump isn't giving ENOUGH fuel.

125k on factory fuel filter.... still no problems.

Does it HAVE an in line fuel filter? I know that in the 90's they started taking the in line ones out and using ones that aren't meant to be replaced until the fuel pump itself quit. So maybe 125K on his stock filter means that his fuel pump is still god LOL.

all 2g nt's except for the 95's have the fuel filter right before the return line attached to the fpr. Its inline under the tank next to the back passanger wheel. I know people say to change then but our factory filters flow up to 100 psi of fuel and trap stuff small as 60 microns of an inch. A human hair is 100 microns of an inch just to give you some relative idea of the sceen. Plus they dont fail as much as you think they would, all of the gas that gets pumped into your car goes through a million filters at the gas station.
