Default question

[align=left]i know you are all tired of answering questions about crankwalk, so i google searched for what it was and i pretty much know exactly what it is and what it does, but i was hoping you would answer a question taht i cant seem to find on the internet and that is

how can i know that it is crankwalk and not just transmission problems???

becasue they all said that it just has problems going into and sometimes out of gears so if the one im looking at buying has problems going into or out of gears i need to know the diff between the two cuz a tranny is no big deal to me but crankwalk is

if there was a thread on it all i would put is the link to magnus motorsports sinc they have an awesome writeup on it, which the FAQ called alternate swaps for the 2g has in it.

One thing youll notice with crankwalk is that the clutch will start to stick on left turns. So thats another indicator, But the one real good way to know is to drop and oil pan and check the bearing clearances.

i doubt the guy is gona let me drop the oil pan in his drive way lol that would prolly look suspicious, and when you say stick do you mean it will feel like its slipping or will the clutch petal just not come back up after you push it to the floor, is there any noises or anything also is there a way to prevent crankwalk, other than nod mod it

One way to help "delay" it is to remove the clutch start switch. But yes i mean the clutch pedal doesnt come back up. Does the tranny have a hard time with every gear? Does the clutch slip at high rpms? How many miles on the car? what year?

if he is serious about gettin rid of the car i don't see why he wouldn't let you drop the oil pan. i would let somebody who was looking at my car if i had nothing to hide.

there really is no way to prevent crankwalk... like TheEngineer said you can unplug ur clutch start up switch but other than that, you have to use a clutch to shift gears so you will always be applying pressure. the absolute best thing you can do is to get a 89-92.5 block called a 6bolt (TheEngineer has one for sale with the internals i'm pretty sure for cheap) the 6 bolt blocks do not walk, period. the only way to walk that crank is to basically beat the crap out of it purposly with low oil levels. replacing your rod bearings and main bearings can help delay it also but relatively it's inevitable with enough miles and enough abuse. it could happen at 90k or 290k but it will happen.

I wouldnt really want to unless the guy planned on putting everything back together, b/c I wouldnt feel like laying on my back in the driveway to let a guy mess around with something he doesnt even know what hes looking for...

You will hear the ticking of it though, and it will be coming from the right side of the motor. A lot of times its mistaken for a ticking in the lifters/head... If the tick is coming from the top of the motor, than its not crankwalk..
