Default Reset ECU

Does anyone know how to reset ECU? I had my ECU replaced with a used one because mine doesn't work anymore. Someone said that I have to bring it to Mitsubishi Dealer while the computer in the car to get reset. Is it true or is there any other way without bringing it to Dealer? There is check engine light.
