SHOULD I GET THE GST?

RE: SHOULD I GET THE GST?
Go with how ever large the exhaust tubing is.
For these cars there is no 'cold air intake' because the air it receives is from the turbo, not straight out from the atmosphere.
I recommend you do this:
First change all fluids, and belts. Then:
Blow off valve (ONLY one you can recirculate)
Intake
Boost Gauge
Boost Controller (set to 16psi)
Downpipe
Then if you want to step up the mods the next step is:
Clutch
Turbo
Front mount intercooler
Injectors
Fuel pump
DSMLink
Wideband Gauge
and if you want you can do other things like an exhaust manifold, external wastegate, intake manifold, cams, cam gears, and all that good stuff.
DO NOT get anything from eBay.
You can get things from:
www.slowboyracing.com
www.buschurracing.com
www.amsperformance.com
www.extremepsi.com
I went through all of this with a guy with the name Shreffy.... or something like that. I explained everything in his thread in detail.

Will the blow off valve give my car that loud awesome sound when in boost? (switching gears) Honestly, i just want that to sound awesome, lol. I'll never get sick of that sound.
Now, the car has a k&n and from what it looks like an intake setup...So, i don't know if i need to buy that, or how much it would help? It looks like this: http://schertz.name/eclipse/pictures/drag/byron0109.jpg
Although, i don't have that stupid box around the cone and my cone is a k&n. Mine is just an open k&n with nothing around it. Although, i understand this is probably taking a little heat from the engine...Should i be concerned? I figured i would clean it a bit and leave it alone...Seems to be sucking air in fine...
Also, the car has exhaust and the piping is at least 3inches all the way back. Is taking off the catalytic converter and replacing it with the same size pipe ok? I'll also have the muffler guy make a down pipe 3 inches to match...(He's a cool guy) Good to go?
Also, about the BOV...I have no idea what you mean by recirculate. I don't intend on buying anything online. I have a place called automotive engineering close by and they carry all this...I feel comfortable going there, because if something is wrong, i can just dive back...When i ask them for the BOV, what do i need to look for? Which one is bad for me? I thought i would just give them the year, model, and they would get the right one...Any particular brand, or price range i should stick with?
Also, do you have a link to possibly an installation guide? Is putting the BOV on easy? (It looks simple) Anything weird i'm supposed to do, or just put it in?
With this being said, i'm going to change the belt and timing belt. The fluids, spark plugs and wires have been changed. The wires look very new and he has maintenance records. I would feel more comfortable changing the timing belt, because it would suck if that broke...
Like i said, if you have a typical installation guide for any of these things, please let me know. I would like to put on the timing belt, BOV, boost controller, etc myself...The downpipe and exhuast i will leave to the muffler shop.
Thanks again, you've been a great help!

RE: SHOULD I GET THE GST?
It won't sound SUPER loud, but you will hear it.
As for the filter, you can keep the filter but you need the pipe from the turbo to the filter, you get me?
The filter is fine exposed like that. If this car didn't have a turbo and the air drawn from the engine bay was being directly fed to the motor, then you might want to invest in one.
I highly doubt its 3inch piping. Double check that. And yes if your friend will make you a downpipe, go for it. Just make sure he uses a flex piece and all that good shiz, aight?
As for the BOV, just get yourself a Greddy Type RS with a recirculate kit. Basically all it means is that little pipe that comes off it gets put back through the intake. Some people like to take off that pipe and just vent it to the atmosphere, and that ****s things up. Those are the people that just do it for the sound, and don't care how the car runs. If you do that, I will personally come down there and park it in your ***.
A BOV is very easy to install. All you need is the flange to put on the stock hole, and all you need is a hose clamp. Take a look around the base of the stock BOV and you will see what I mean. Basically, you remove the stock one, tighten down the flange, and bolt the BOV to it. Then you just connect the vac line and BAM good to go.
All the "How To" guides are located on vfaq.com
I would advise against doing the timing belt yourself. If you should screw up it would mean the end of your engine. If you do attempt it, be VERY VERY careful in making sure you have it all lined up correctly.
Together with the timing belt you should also change the tensioner and water pump, because if either one goes out it will throw off the timing belt.

Now, about the downpipe. I'm going to get it done at a reputable muffler shop that has always done my domestic exhaust. I'm going to ask him to get a pipe and run it from the turbo to the exhaust, with as less bends as possible. The idea being that the pipe is bigger. Now, when i tell him to do this, what about the O2's? Can he just make a whole and put everything back to normal? I figure it's not wise to bypass the O2's...Couldn't that be bad?
Also, what about the piece that connects to the turbo? http://marble.sru.edu/~mrb6558/EscortTurbo/HPIM0531.JPG Should he use the same tip as my old downpipe and put it on a bigger pipe?
Another thing, are basic pipes ok? I see people getting coates pipes and ones wrapped like this. http://www.majhost.com/gallery/ragna...downpipe08.jpg I understand it will keep things cooler, but if i don't do this, will i have problems? Power loss, or anything?
(I'm trying to do everything right, so bare with me, lol)
About the BOV. Seems simple. Now, should i really spend all this money on a greddy BOV, when i can get a 1g BOV? I've heard they are fine. Perhaps i can get one of these at an auto parts store considerably cheaper? (Who cares about how it looks)
Now, if i choose the 1g BOV routine, what else would i need? When changing the BOV, is it as simple as putting the 1g BOV in place of mine, or do i need to buy something with it?
The exhaust is big man. My Z had 2.5 exhaust and the pipes under the car are bigger...Regardless, if it's 2.5 inches, i don't think it will be much of a difference with my basic mods. (Not worth the money) In the future if i got really serious, then yes a 3inch upgrade would be good. Agree?
It is ok running a straight pipe in place of the catalytic converter? It shouldn't be too loud i would think...
I like loud anyway, lol...
Any sound difference between a 1g BOV and a new greddy for example? Also, what makes that noise louder? If i don't make it "open" how can i make it very noticable? This way, if i go by someone they can hear it, you know?
If i can't do it, oh well...It isn't worth sacrificing the cars performance...Just wondering how to make it sound cooler. =)

RE: SHOULD I GET THE GST?
I mean the intake pipe. If you are just running the stock black plastic rigid one.
If you are going to run a 3" exhaust then you are going to need to do the 'o2 fix'. It is posted on this forum and stickied, I suggest you take a look at it. Its very simple and it will keep you from getting a check engine light for the o2 sensor.
Also, if you can, tell them to port the exhaust manifold, o2 housing, and all that good shiz. That will reduce spool time decently.
Yes you can use exhaust wrapping. The idea is to seal in the heat form the engine as to not increase the intake temps for the engine. You can do it, but if you have the stock heat shield its good enough. You don't need to use the wrap on the downpipe or anything like that.
A BOV is one of the cheaper modifications you can do. A Greddy Type RS is probably $160. Yes you could get a 1g BOV and that would work fine. Great question! With a 1g BOV you don't need the flange, because I believe it fits right into the stock flange and all the fittings are there. You just need to directly swap it, and you are good to go. If you take a look at a 1g BOV you will notice it has like an exit pipe on it, and that is supposed to lead back to the intake. If you have that little hose removed on the car, I suggest putting it back. Don't vent to atmosphere.
Yes a 3 inch would be better for a much larger turbo, but for the stock turbo and anything moderately sized, the 2.5 is more than adequate. You are correct in thinking that it won't make a big difference with your mods currently.
The straight pipe would actually make a decent difference on these cars because they are turbo. If they were n/a that would be a different story. However, you will throw a code for the o2 sensor, and you won't pass emissions.
Yes there is a sound difference. The 1g BOV is just an air releasing sound, where the Greddy sounds like a crisp chirp (check youtube)
The best way to make it louder would be to get a hard pipe. You can get a metal upper intercooler pipe, and that will make it louder.
Don't worry about asking these questions, they are well founded and thought out. Not retarded like half the ones I usually get.

RE: SHOULD I GET THE GST?
If your gonna go with exhaust just get 3". Its better to do it once rather than having to upgrade again later and its not really gonna cost you any more. And if you are saying that its gonna be custom made then make sure that ALL BENDS are mandrel bent ONLY. You cannot have pinch bends. And if your gonna be getting rid of the cat, then just have him make the DP from the o2 housing back to the catback so its all one peice. There are a few companies that make downpipes this way. I believe that Megan Racing is one of them.
You can get a 1g BOV pretty cheap from here www.dsmtrader.com you will find alot of stuff and good deals from there. The greddy will be louder than a 1g BOV however, its all in the design of the BOV. And dont look on ebay for BOV's then are generally knockoffs.
