I recently replaced my 1997 Eclipse Spyder's motor with what I think is a 1998. I have looked at the paper work and it really does not indicate what year the engine is. The cars original engine had 160,000 miles on it. I have no idea how many miles the used engine had so I am kind of confused as to what would be a fair way to establish a new truer mileage. I am not talking about changing the speedometer reading but I am going to keep a log on my mileage, are there any suggestions.

well the mielage on the mileage meter of the car is a reference to the wear on the Chasis, not necessarily the motor, so if you ever decide to sell the car just say that the car has xxxx miles on it (refering to the number on the mielage meter) but the engine only has xxxxx miles on it

 

i agree with RCJr9186, that is a good way to say about how many milage is on your car when you are refurring to the chasis, i don't know anyone that would actually go out and buy a older more thrashed engine and put it in their car, unless the would won't to keep their cars engine for another car or the same type of car in the future.

 

here is what you should do. List it with the miles that are on the odometer and say that the engine was replaced xxx miles ago. Then do a compression test to show that the replacement engine is working properly. That is the right way of going about it since you dont know how many miles are on the engine.
