it could be the sensor but i think the car would throw a check engine light if it was.

i had the same problem in my car.... i changed the plugs, nothing, changed the wires and plugs, nothing. then i changed the coil pack, come to find out there was corrosion on one of the ends causing it not to send the full spark to the wire > plug > cylinder. changed it out and i've been good ever since.

maybe. A few months ago it was running bad, blowing alot of smoke, I had no idea what the hell was wrong and neither did the mitsubishi dealer. I thought the car was going to die, then it threw a code and I needed an O2 sensor, and its been okay since now.

I do think it is funny how I hope and pray that the CEL will come on so I can know whats wrong with it.

I actually had a plug wire go bad and break the insulation at the boot. It was the #3 wire and when that happened it started sending spark to the #4 cylinder when 3 was supposed to be getting it. Talk about an interesting troubleshooting session for me. If I hadn't started hearing the spark jumping and arcing I'd probably never even thought of it being the wires (They had less than 1K miles on them).

Well it wasnt the plugs or wires. It turns out it was 2 wires on the MAF were touching causing it to run terribly. Another problem solved. Thanks guys.
