i noticed that when i rev the engine and then letoff the gas i hear this loud high pitch sound. not really sure how to descrive it. it is sounds like it is coming from the back of the engine so i was thanking intake manifold gasket. but if i had that big of a boost leak than i should have a considerable loss in power right, butim still showing 13 psi. Anybody have any ideas on what this noise might be, it worries me a little.

 

How many miles you got on that turbo? Does it ever make a grinding sound at all?

Okay, take your intake pipe off and take a look at the turbo blades.

 

Thats what I was thinking.. Could be death whine.. Your turbo may be going bad..

 

i checked the turbo and its fine. my car has round 136 thousand miles on it. i was told when i bought the car that it has a new stock turbo on it. but after listening to the sound a little more yesterday it does sound like metal grinding. it happens when you rev the car and sounds like its coming from the back left of the engine. its not horribly loud but you can deffinatly hear it. it seems to still run ok, with no drop in power.

 

do you havea stock bov? it sounds like a bov problem to me personally... its only when you let off right? i'd stand infront of the ar w/ the hood up and have a friend rev and let of and try to find out where its coming from. if that doesn't do anything i'd try a boost leak test after that.

 

i took it to my mechanic and he also sayed it could be the turbo. i dont thank it is the blowoff valve. at first i thought it was a leak but now it sounds to be mechanical. i checked the turbo for shaft play and there was no movement but the turbine was difficult to turn. could it be a bearing.
