Default Tach not working

On my 98 eclipse GST i found out today while driving home from church that my tachometer stopped working, i'm wondering what sensor recongizes how fast the engine is running at, and if you have any pictures it would be greatly appriceated.

Hey, I know where that is.....
No pictures though and pics will help explain it's location better than words...or at least my words, lol.
If you don't get any posts with the speed sensor, get one for you.

Ooops, I'm thinking the speedo for some reason.
The tach gets its signal from the ECU which get's it from an alternator signal. Give me until later, when I can focus on it and I'll post up more, if it hasn't already been done.

silver it gets it from the cam sensor (crank sensor on 420a)
If it came from the alternator it would be constantly different weather lights were on or off like the one in the turbo timers are.
if your tach quit and the engine runs its probly the tach itself, maybe just a bad connection in the dash cluster. Check fuses just to be sure.

Check your power transistor too. It houses a tach signal too.
...still searching more info.

Do you have anything that shows your RPMS? Like a TT a logger or something?
Have you touched your instrument cluster lately? Have you done anything to have upset the signal at all, like a new amp, headunit, anything?

i put a new head unit in but it didn't effect anything, i tighted up everything today, but yesturday, i went down to the water front here where i live and there was some crappy construction and lots and lots of bumps over and over again, and with stiff suspension it ain't the best for my car. and for some odd reason it started working tonight when i was coming home from my girlfriends house. but if it goes bad again, i'll be on here looking for some reason to it. but thanks for the help, i appreciate it.

Bad connection behind the dash most likely.
My oil pressure gauge does the same thing.
