most def need a cherry picker (hoist).

having a car hoist is definetly the easiest in my opion. if you have one all you need to do is disconnect all wire harness from engine and all the lines and such. unbolt all engine mounts and the struts from the strut towers with the car on the ground. Then just hoist the car up very slowly and carfully and you have suspension, engine, and tranny all out at easy access. Otherwise you need a cherry picker and that you have to only remove engine. If I understand what your asking about the jack you'd never get the car high enough to drop the engine from the bottom side.

if youve never taken it out, its actually a huge feat to conquer. you have to take so much **** out, that you almost dis-assemble the entire car.

ive been working on just dropping just the trans out for like 4 days now. im almost there, but its not easy. in every other car ive had, taking the transmission out was a simple unbolt and drop procedure, but carmakers nowadays dont give a **** about anyone working on the cars. they just have to pump them out, and make profit.

Youll probably want a cherry picker, just because its easier to catch things that are still attached to it, when youre pulling it out, like some kind of wires or something.

i took my motor ot of my car with the help of 2 other people. we just lifted the motor and carried it over and put it on the floor. i didnt really care what i did with it because i was swapping a 6-bolt into it. wasnt that heavy.

okay, i just got the transmission out of my car, and after looking at a couple things, it would be possible to drop the engine down to the floor, if you dont want to do it the crane way.
