Most shops charge in excess of 3-5000 dollars to convert your car to targa. When you cut the roof, you lose a LOT of structural support. You'd have to have a good deal of frame reinforcement to keep the car sturdy. Notice the roll cage he has in there, and I believe he's got some underbody supports as well.

The main problem with those is creating them, and stopping them from leaking. If it's not a factory made targa top, it's almost garunteed to leak.

if i was to pay somebody 3-5000$ to convert to targa, that motha better not leak. If your gonna have that done just be shore to have it done perfessionally. thats my only advice for you.

There's no way I'm ever going to do it. I don't trust myself enough to cut my own roof off, and I don't have the cash to pay someone else to do it.

I saw an eclipse with a custom targa top a few weeks ago. Looked really bad IMO. I kinda prefer the stock look on the exterior. Just my two cents.

just a question. I am new. I am about to buy a 2002 gt eclipse only problem is it doesnt have a sunroof. I am thinking about targa toping it. someone said that you have to do frame support. does this car not share the same frame as the spyder. and if it does why would it matter if you cut the roof?

Dre's GSX
Here is guy I know from tuners....he built this himself...and after talking for a while w/him, decided it's more than I wish to jump into.
Peace
Phil

The current feature car....98tsiAWD's car is (to the best of my knowledge) not targa...and if he did, when in the hell did he do it? I need to PM him if this is true.

Would a targa top really do that much more for you than a sunroof? I'd imagine you could have a sunroof installed for under $500. A sunroof will give you close to the same feeling while you are driving the car... wouldn't look as cool though.

Heck, for $5000, you could just sell your eclipse and buy a convertible. I'd rather have a convertible than a targa (in my opinion)

I remember him saying he had to search long and hard for del sol and supra hinges...too much of a pain, but very pleasing to the eyes.
Peace.
