Default thinking about new car need opinions!!

i was looking into possibly getting a 1985 mitsubishi starion esi-r (it is a 2.6 turbo...4g54 engine RWD) and i was wondering what your guy's open and honest opinions are of the car...in all aspects! any info or opinions very appreciated!! i have a chance to scoop one up for 500 bucks... the person said it might need rod bearings or a crank maybe... dont know if it runs. does this keep it from running? maybe what affects it or causes that?? what are the signs of it maybe?? and how much would it cost to fix and how hard would it be. it has 160k on the odo. thanks guys! i know its the wrong section but i live in THIS forum. thanks

That car sounds like it needs a major rebuild.
Being an 86, I don't think it'd be worth a grand to rebuild or replace the motor.
Instead, find something a little newer and make a wiser investment.

Ive heard a lot of good things with those cars.. I would offer him 350 and see if he takes that, but it would be a fun car to work on if thats what you like to do... Good potential there..

A new motor you could prolly look at about 2g. Depending on whats wrong with it exactly it could be cheaper than that.. But for 3g, you could prolly have the car runnin pretty good... Figure about another grand to fix anything else right away..
