Tire rod question
What is the purpose of a tire rod.. Strangely i went to those quick 10 min oil change and got an oil change. I guess my first experience wasn't the best. Kinda pricy and plus after the oil change i drove off and on every bump, i heard clunking noise from the front right area. So i bring it back to the oil change demanded wut was done under the car and took a look. Found that the tire rod was clunking. Now can you drive around still or is it unsafe. Kinda POOOR right now. This GSX is draining money like crazy.

And if youre not prepared to continue to dump money into it, you shouldn't have bought a DSM.

RE: Tire rod question
well to answer this guys question finally, haha
Its actually called a tie rod which is what transfers motion from the steering column to the wheels making them turn. Mine were bad on my talon for over 2 years and i never had a problem.

RE: Tire rod question
Ohh lol mind the spellin. Yah well the luv for this car is enough to make me still want a DSM after reading about them. I just didn't expect to spend money within the next week of purchasing the car. My to do list and fix just keeps growing. Thanks for the info i dont plan on fixing the TIE rod n e time soon. Still got the missfire to try and correct.

RE: Tire rod question
It all depends. The tie rod can last for 2 years being bad or it may fall apart tommorrow. Remember the tie rod is what keeps the wheel connected to the steering. As soon as you lose that tie rod end the first bump you hit will send the wheel wherever it feels like going likely causing ALOT of hate and discontent. The tie rod ends are around $40 a piece then after installing you'll likely need an alignment afterwards. I've seen the aftermath of ball joints popping apart and tie rod ends popping out. Also think about trying to grease it. There may be a zirc fitting on the underside of the tie rod end that you can hook a grease gun up to and inject some grease in there to quiet it down a bit .
