TROUBLESHOOTERS, PLEASE READ!!!!!
I have just dropped my engine into my 1997 mitsubishi eclipse GST, all harnesses and everything is hooked up and ready to go...well, when i turn the key, my fuel pump doesnt come on and i have no spark going thru my coil...I have checked and replaced the crank angle sensor(CAS) which controls these two and my original as well as the new one does the same thing...Now, when i unplug the CAS and plug it back in, the fuel pump comes on but only for a second but definitely not long enough to prime the engine...I dont knwo what to do and i am at a dead end it seems like and i need help, everyhting else seems in working order, it turns over just fine, just not getting fuel and fire to the block...NEED any kind of info in order to proceed or if anyone is in the DFW area and will come look at it, I will pay you if you fix the problem....please please please!!!!!
Thats a good one, do you know for sure that your ecu is good? Before you go and buy a new one try to see if you can borrow someone elses. This is really werid though... i am going to have to think about this one.
Yeah check fuses and battery though if the pump is coming on then that doesn't sound like the problem. (Better to be safe than sorry). What you need to do first is hook up a test lead to the hot wire of the fuel pump. Then have someone turn the key to the ON position. Doing that without the car running SHOULD kick the pump on for 2 seconds. That's all that it needs to prime the system. Try turning the key on then off then on then off then try starting the car. Also if you can get a hold of a fuel system pressure tester there is a nipple on the fuel rail to connect it to once you hook it up try to start the car that should tell you if you have pressure. Also have you looked into a possible ECU problem? If you've replaced the sensor and it's STILL acting like it's a sensor problem then it may be an ECU problem... What years were afflicted with the ECU cap leak? And if yours is one of those years you MAY want to have the ECU checked.
he said the pump hits for about a second then turns off which sounds like normal priming time (Usually 2 seconds) that's why I'm leaning towards the ECU (DAMN you slow beat me to the punch... I was typin it up you poisted JUST before I did LOL)
Its not the battery because it cranks just fine...I have just all fuses and all are good....how the hell do i switch ecu's out with someone elses? and if that is the case how effing broke am i going to be?
Like I said turn the key to the ON position at LEAST 3 times on and off on and off to ensure a prime. And to swap comps you'lll have to go behind the lower console section if I'm not mistaken. Also the computer depending where you get it can be rather cheap or really expensive. You MAY if the cap leak IS the problem you just may be able to salvage the computer. Depends how far gone things are.
