Weird Noise
Hey guys. This noise is seriously bothering me and I have no idea what it is. Whenever I crank up my car it makes this squeaky noise. I think its a belt, but not sure which one. I thought it was the alternator belt, so everytime it makes a noise, i tighten the alternator belt and the noise stops. But after letting it cool down after driving it and then cranking it up again, it makes that same noise again. If I leave the car alone for less than 1 hour it wont make that noise when cranking it, but if I leave it sit for longer than 1 hour it makes that noise. The noise doesnt last long. It last for about 5 seconds maybe less, maybe more, somewhere there. But in the mornings it lasts longer than 5 seconds, and lasts for about 8-12 seconds. But I am really getting tired of this noise. Any of guys have any idea what it could be?

RE: Weird Noise
Sounds like an alternator belt, mine used to do that when it was cold out. When I cranked it, it would make a noise, then go away when I drove it.

RE: Weird Noise
Yeah, so what should I do about it? replace it? because I have already bought a second one, and the one on is new.
|
RE: Weird Noise
try tightening it up and see if it goes away.

RE: Weird Noise
Well, i tighten it every time it makes that noise. But I tightened the belt all the way once and the noise still came on. I took out that belt and compared it to a new one that I bought and it was stretched. So what should I do?

RE: Weird Noise
maybe its not the alternator belt. Could maybe be a fanbelt?
|
RE: Weird Noise
How about the power steering belt? Think that could be it? I will take a look at the fan belt too.

RE: Weird Noise
Replace all the belts and if that doesn't fix the problem you MAY have something more serious wrong. Like possibly a bent shaft on the alt of PS pump.

RE: Weird Noise
Thats what scares me.
But also, whenever I turn on the air conditioning the belt makes that noise. Does this help? |
RE: Weird Noise
Another trick you can use which will possibly tell you is to put a little dish soap on the belt this helps it stick. It's only a temp fix though. I'd suggest changing ALL belts and then see if the squeak persists.
