Burnt I don't think he'll need the fmic untill he gets a new turbo, my friend told me it would do nothing unless you had a much larger turbo, and he has worked on these cars for a long time and specializes in selling dsm parts.

im an enthusiast in hating civics...but a friend of mine has a civic, he had it port and polished;and thats pretty much all its got, and he kept up a pretty good amount with a stage 5 300zx TT, a supercharged s2000, and an STI... i forget exactly what was done, but in the end, he was shifting at like 9 grand....

Well, there are a lot of EG civics with b18c's that can post some impressive times. Even a b18c1 with some hot cams can tear apart a type r. EGs and EKs are relatively light, around 300 to as much as 600lbs lighter than Spyder GST's(~3050lbs). So a 170hp engine in a 2500lb body can really move. Add in a high flow intake and a header that gains only in the upper rpms, and you've gotten closer to 13 seconds. There are a good amount of easy cheap mods you can do, like switiching to 14b turbo(can be had around $50), getting a MKIV supra SMIC(can support 350hp very efficiently), and of course...TURNING UP THE BOOST!!!
Also, just my personal opinion, i don't believe in CAI's. I'm one of those guys that believes in air box's, whether stock or custom aftermarket. Something like a box with a ram air setup is what i think is most effective, but like i said, it's just my 2 cents.

Yea, if he had something over the 1.6 with a few things on it and he was driving it really hard and got good shifts he may have been able to pull it off.

If you could have, you should have tried to see the engine. A d16 or d17 can never make enough power to beat a 2g turbo car without forced induction or nitrous. However, since some civics did come with the b16(160hp), a swap might look very oem and stock looking. Kinda hard to see sometimes, but the d series were almost all SOHC i think. oh well, like they said, he prolly just had nitrous.

either way it was sick; perfect shifts might have something to do with it, but the 300zx runs 12.7's; and the s2000 runs 13.0....so i dunno; his dad owns a shop called spyder prep; so he had head work done; either way it works...lol

Headwork can really change a car! It may not have such an impact on forced induction engines, but on a naturally aspirated engine, a good port job and extrude honed manifolds can really make a difference. But a d series engine still will not beat a turbocharged eclipse without nitrous or a turbo/sc. Even the newer d17 has a hard time breaking 170hp. And proper shifting can mean a difference, but you can only make a 130hp civic go so fast with good shifting. So the problem is either he wasn't telling the truth, or your car is really bogged downed....I assume he wasn't telling the truth.

could always have your car dyno'd to eliminate the option that your car isn't running right.
