what's a good turbo for my 97gst????
Alright today I found out my big 16g crapped out on me, and AMS quoted me it'll be 350 to port and install a 34mm flapper. Hence I decided to just get another one. With my big 16g I was pushing 20psi daily and had no tratcion in the rain. I was wondering if the 18g or 20g are actually worth it on the gst's cuz of the traction issues. This car isn't going to be a dd just for fun and the weekends, so pain in the a$$ doesn't really matter. Worst case ill just buy another 16g

Ha, it was a stock one, but im upgrading to an aftermarket one instead of porting the oem one. Im replacing everything after the turbo exhaust wise because it was hacked

yeah you told me to get that 60 trim you showed me,haha nah yeah idk if i get a 14b like you said do i still need a bigger flapper installed, or should i be good with the stock one?

a turbo is a very... personal preference kind of part. there are so many ways to run a turbo it's rediculous. you can have a quick spooling turbo that will give you a wide powerband of full bost such as an Evo III Big 16g or GT28R and have a nasty little street car. or you could go with a larger turbo which will take a little longer to spool but will take less boost to make as much power as a smaller turbo and you also have the option of turning up the boost later on down the road. you can get a brand new E3B16G on Turbocharges.com for like 565 or you could get a gt28r for like 900. the 28r is obviously more expensive but it's ball bearing, quicker spooling, and made by garrett so you know its a quality part that will last you years to come.

Just so everyone knows this is my take on it. He was having issues with boost creep on his 16g, which seems to be authentic since it have the TD05H stamped on it. However i think the flapper was too small along with his crappy manifold and exhaust system.
Now he had been talking about selling the car and just wanted to get it working so it could be sold. Well if it was me and i wanted a fas solution to this problem i would go onto dsmtrader and find a 14b since they sell VERY cheap. Also long as there is no shaft play in it, it should be fine. Now that will be a complete bolt on since he already has the 16g install kit. And since it wont be flowing as much air back into the engine he shouldnt have the problem of boost creep with it. Since even a totally stock system can handle the flow from a 14b.
Now this again is all assuming that he is planning on selling the car. It would be the best method IMHO

i wasn't aware you were selling it. if you are just looking for a quick fix to sell it... i agree with TE. just find a used, stock turbo and throw it on there (just make sure there is no shaft play)
