Today when i was driving my car I stopped at a red light and then when i started to go, the car would not pick up. It was lagging big time. Then all of a sudden it jerked really hard and then started to move. Then i shifted to second and the same thing happened, and the car just kept lagging on and off. Once i got to 4th gear the car stopped lagging and it was driving normal. Does anyone have an idea of whats wrong?

 

First off, what year and model? Sounds almost like the MAF is on its way out or maybe unplugged?

 

its a 2000 mitsubishi eclipse V6 GT 5spd

 

was the car cold and just started a few minuted before because 3Gs hate driving when they are cold.

 

well it wasnt really that cold, but i would hold the accelerator all the way and the car would barely move, then all of a sudden it would jerk really hard and then start moving.

 

Its hard to say....is it blowing any smoke at all when its bogging out? How many miles on the car?

 

wow...might be fuel system er' ignition....or maybe the tranny [X(]

 

the car has 53,000 miles on it. i dont think it is the fuel system, because when i get past fourth gear then everything works fine. There is no more lagging, and the car doesnt bog down in any gear. but i dont know what makes it do this everytime i start it.

 

is the car manual? Have you check tranny\Clutch fluid..... just throwing out ideas lol

 

i was looking at the haynes manual for my car, and i think the problem is the Throttle Position Sensor. Does anyone know how often the TPS sensor goes bad?
