no it wouldnt, its just a matter of high flowing airin a restricted surface... and there's a big difference between a belt squeel and a whistle, i'm sure he can figure that out

The noise is most definitely NOT a belt squeal. It sounds just like someone whistling out of their mouth. And I don't think it's the intake. Because I heard that noise before. After I upgraded my air intake, the whistling is still there. It's been about 6 months of good solid driving so far, and the noise hasn't done a single thing harmful. So I'll safely assume it's harmless. But I'm still curious...what exactly IS it? My friend has a 96 RS, and his ran without the noise, even when the needle shot up to 4-5. And his car has over 180k miles on it.

are you serious? did you miss my post? it's nothing more than high flowing air moving through a restricted area... just like when you whistle out of your mouth... it's nothing harmful...

Could it be a leak in the exhaust?

What do you mean, no? It could be a small hole in the exhaust, it'll make a whistling-type of sound; probably isn't, but don't say it can't be that.

nah, i will say it can't be that... have you ever heard an exhaust whistle? the exhaust pulses are to inconsistent to make a whitsle noise... if it was the manifold it'dbe a somewhat of a ticking, and if there was a hole later in the exhaust it be just like it was coming out of the muffler only a little louder... so no, it wouldn't be a hole in the exhaust, it's the air intake, and it WILL NOT cause any damage to your car... why are we still going over this?
