Default wideband

hey guys, i'm looking up parts for my new 98 GSX (YESSSS FINALLY GOT IT) and i came across a "wideband" it looks just like a normal o2 sensor only about 200 bucks more expensive, i see that you can read more things on it but do you really need ot pay that kind of money for it? or does it serve another purpose?
