Default Will having a staight pipe smell like gas?

I have no cat on my car. I bought it like this. I replaced my charcoal can, but I still smell gas. When I was installing my coilovers I started up my car again and went to the hatch to put some tools inside. I smelled gas emitting from my exhaust. I was wondering if this could be the gas smell I get when I drive with my windows open.

Just fyi, me and other ppl looked at my fuel lines and I took apart my fuel rail to look at my injectors and what not. We noticed no obvious problems and figured it had to be the charcoal can.

So could it be my no cat exhaust?

Thx.

Sounds to me like you need more air in your ratio/ or more spark in your cylinders, cause that means you're not buring off enough of the gas in the combustion chamber.

well, that could be the case... but i would think that if you dont have a cat then yes you would be getting that gas smell... the whole point of the cat is to "clean" your emmittent gasses. you could also be running rich like wingo said

Hhhhmmm, well that explains a lot. I know there I just bought new plug wires and new plugs so I hope that will give me more spark. I shoulda replaced my wires a while ago but I never got to it.

How can I test if I am running rich? I guess an Air/Fuel ratio gauge?

Thx

Wingo you are an idiot.

The no cat is causing the gas smell. Simple as that. If you want to solve it, then put a cat on it.

That's certainly why sk8dudety agreed that it could be the case as well so, go ahead and warp back over to the real world away from your land of EGO! It's called constructive criticism, not attack people because they are smarter than you.

Hahahaha, ah I love this place.

Well, I will probably replace the whole exhaust after winter here in NYC. I mean from my understanding I would need a 3" exhaust setup to start upgrading my fuel system and turbo. Besides, since it's cold now, I'll just keep the friggin windows closed. To hell with everyone outside. :]

Thx all.
