Default wow. this car....gah.

Today i was driving to gi joes and screwed something up.

I was tailing my friend, he turned right, i did too, then he slams on his brakes. So i slammed my clutch and brake, the car stopped really abruptly, and we waited for these kids to cross the road, but when i let the clutch out, it felt as if 5 years of hard clutch wear had just happened in a couple seconds. The pedal hardly wanted to push back against my foot.

So i parked, turned it off, and let it rest for a while. After 10ish minutes, i put the clutch down, and still felt the same, but when i tried to start it, it turned on but this screeching noise started, sort of like a constant nail on chalkboard noise, and there was some smoke coming from the engine comp. It was coming off somewhere around the trans. I looked up and noticed the clutch master cylinder was way above the "MAX" line.

It will go into gear and drive(barely), so i got it home, and after a talk with pops, weve both come to the conclusion that its the throw out bearing. Are we wrong?

Any thoughts?

Now, don't take my word for fact, but if it were an e30 here's what it would be:

clutch master/slave cyl.

Bmw e30s are the only car I know, so I'm not sure if every/any other car has them.

just my 2 cents.

When the throw out bearing is gone it rattles only when the foot is not on the clutch. If you can press your foot down on the clutch and it still makes the noise chances are its not the bearing.

check for leaks in the clutch release system, ie. the master or slave cylinder, the fluid lines, everything

could the lines maybe become jammed up, causing the master cylinder to go over the max line?

if you got crap in them maybe, or if there deformed, otherwise, i dont see how they would
also, i'm just ramblin off ideas here, but the way it sounds, when you slammed on the clutch pedal, the fluid couldn't move through the lines quick enough so it went up through the master cylinder. the fact that your pedal isn't returning could be keepin the fluid in there, idk, just some ideas. try bleedin the system if you can

agreed. when the throw out bearing goes out, its just more of an annoyance than a problem. it doesn't cause any damage. just an annoying hum/rattle when you don't have pressed in.
