Default wow, my experience sux!

Alrite, i jus bought my eclipse, and its a 97 rs, i then take it to my local mechanic.(now you have to remember everything sounded wonderful when i purchased this car). So the mechanic says it needs a new timing belt, and a new head gasket. What are the odds? Now i have to work my *** off all summer to get this money, plus the insurance. Any ideas on what i should do? I bout it off of a private deal, from a dealer on ebay. PLEASE I NEED YOUR HELP! I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO

timing belt is $20. head gasket isn't much more either.. labor will cost you a couple hundred. thing is.. every 60,000 miles you need a new belt. whether you NEED it or not, you need it. cause if something happens and that belt breaks, your engine will Bust to hell. so the $300 its going to cost for all of that is a important expense. also, this would be IDEAL time for new cam gears and/or pullies. taking the belt off includes these things, so go for it now so you don't pay for it twice

Maybe you could check and see if there are any local vocational schools that have auto mechanics classes. Sometimes they'll take a car like yours in and work on it for just the price of parts.

This is one of those stories where there's always someone who has it worse. I just ook my 2000 Eclipse GT in for the 60k service. I figured spend a little extra and get the timing belt and plugs done right. Grand total is $922. I am just blown away. I'm still paying on the car and I had to drop a grand on scheduled maintenance. I will definitely be keeping it an extra year, year and a half now. So dont fel that bad, theres someone who has it worse. BTW ... here comes a break job fro $300, and thats at the local Tires Plus ... if i were not so lazy and still did it all that **** myself ...

I just blew my timing belt about 7 weeks ago and it toasted the engine. [:@]

Definitely worth the money instead of having to replace an engine later.

ok damn it, head gasket is 45 dollars at advanced auto parts, find a small mechanic shop for the timing belt, also unless your going to build the engine i suggest if you need a new head gasket, upgrade springs, cams, cam gears, and pulleys. oh and the guy bitchin bout the maintnance at the dealership your lazy so you took it there, us mechanics gotta make a livin, ever worked on a daily driven car? i didnt think so, so shut the hell up
