Default '05 Eclipse Emergency Brake light on

Hey i have a 2005 Eclipse that the emergency brake light is on, even with the brake disengaged, I originally thought it was the fact that the cable was loose, so i tightened it up and it's still on, It will turn off after a few miles of driving seems to only shut off though when I shift gears and accidently let off the clutch to fast so it jerks the car. any idea's as to what could cause this it deff seems like it'd be a cable somewhere cause it doesnt stay on all the time and after it warms up and i shift it will shut off?

cable has rubbed through. Or,less likely, switch is poked.

How much does it bother you?

The "emergency brake light" is not just to tell you the emergency brake is on, it also comes on when there is an imbalance in the brake system due to a leak or low fluid. Have you checked the level in the brake fluid reservoir?

Edit: sorry, meant to quote ninjaloops916's post instead of the 3 year old one.

akzle, with all the free time I have it's just another thing that I can fix. A splintering distraction while night driving lol. jkeaton, the fluid level looks pretty good being just below max. The only real work i've done to fix this is filling the brake res haha. Not sure what else to do >.<

Having only owned my 3rg gen for less than a month, I have not delved that deeply into it, but I would also suggest taking out the center console insert (it just pops out) and see if there is a brake switch on the hand brake mechanism somewhere. Based on experience with previous vehicles, most have a switch that is just an exposed metal contact and sometimes the metal can get corroded and not make a good connection. Not sure if the Eclipse has one of these. I need to download the FSM and look at some wiring diagrams.

fluid level good doesnt mean there isnt air in the system.
Bleed the brakes with a full system of new fluid.
handbrake switch/wiring as above.
