Default 2003 Eclipse 5spd shifts hard when cold

My 2003 Eclipse GS, 2.4 ltr. 5spd has 65k miles. I bought it during the summer of 08.Sincecold weather came, I live in VT,the shifting is very stiff in 1st and 2nd gear. Until it warms up, it grinds a little when shifting into 2nd unless I shift very slowly. I had the lightest synthetic oil availableput in the tranny, and it helped only slightly. Is this normal for this car?

ya almost all 3g's you get with the 4g664 engine (not sure about the v6) have issues shifting when its cold. just drive it easily a little bit until it warms up. you can try putting some synchromesh trans fluid in it, it should help a little bit.

I have an '04 GTS with the same problem. I took it to my localmechanic because I thought some was really wrong with it.His recommendation was to start it up early and shift slowly when it's cold out.

Default hard shift

i am in california and mine does the same thing, 2005 spyder v6 with 5 speed manual trans. once warmed up shifts fine.. could be the clutch not totally disengaging when cold but i don't think so... my son also has mitsubishi and his does it even though it is a different model.. far as i know it is just the way it is but i enjoy the car enough that i can put up with this problem....good luck
