2005 Mitsubishi Eclipse GTS Clicking sound...
Hey guys. I have a manual 3.0 V6 2005 Mitsubishi Eclipse GTS with 90K miles on it and I love it!!! I am having problems with the clicking sound that is coming from the top engine. Sounds like its coming from the intake manifold... It has been going on for a while... Usually on a cold start and then goes away for a little and comes back sometimes... I did an oil change using synthetic oil and lucas and the clicking stopped for a while but now it is back again and its really annoying... The clicking doesn't stop when I rev the engine but it just clicks faster... Also it doesn't matter if I am in neutral or in gear the clicking continues even whit the clutch pressed in... It is starting to **** me off, Ive taken the valve head cover off to see if it was because of my lifters but they all seem fine... I didnt find any exhaust leaks... My AC is off, and it doesnt change anything... When I drive it I cant really hear it because of my exhaust pipe but I know its there... Especially when its idling... Tick tick tick.... I am trying everything I can to find the problem and fix it but not having any luck... Everything about this car is perfect, just this stupid clicking noise... When I bought the car, it did not have it... I know the lifters and fuel injectors can be noisy but this is different... Is it rod noise?... How do I troubleshoot it? Maybe it is the lifters, should I take them completely off to be sure? Or could it be a piston slap? I have used a stethoscope but still cannot pinpoint the exact location of the clicking... I have taken the car to the shop but took a long time and told me its the trany, well I know for a fact that it isn't the trany... Trany is fairly new and works like clockwork, no problems shifting or using the cluch, plus the clicking doesnt stop when trany is disengaged... I need some tips on this guys... Help in anyway you can, thanks a lot!!!((:
Sounds like lifter tick. Which is normal and not going to hurt anything. If it were internal like a rod or bearing the engine would go fairly quickly. If its been making the noise more than a few days its not internal. Also it would probably lose oil pressure then too
