2006 Eclipse

2006 Eclipse
I leased a 3G 2000 Eclipse GT for 3 years and it was a great little car. But it lacked the power and performance that I wanted so when my lease was up I got a 2003 Nissan 350Z. I love the Z car but overall I have to say that I preferred the quality of the Eclipse. My Z has just 20K miles on it and already has numberous interior rattles that the dealer refuses to fix. My Eclipse was rattle-free after 50K miles. With that in mind I am very interested in the new 06 Eclipse. But what is the deal with the engine?!?! Mitsu can make a 276 hp turbo 4 banger for the Evo but yet they are going to stick an oversized 3.8 liter V6 that only makes 263 hp into the new Eclipse. Can anyone explain this to me? Or has this question been beat to death already? My Z has 300 hp from a 3.5 V6. I prefer a non-turbo V6 to a turbo 4 so I like that part but I just can't believe that Mitsu is introducing this brand new MIVEC (whatever that is) V6 and it is only going to make 263 horses. I would love some feedback on this.

RE: 2006 Eclipse
we live in a country of people who like big engines whether they are efficient or not, and its cheaper for them design wise to get 260hp out of a big v6 than something smaller . you wont find an engine like that in japan though...

RE: 2006 Eclipse
Mitsu needs a sports car that can compete with the 350Z. PERIOD. Mitsubishi makes good cars and it's just a shame that their best performer is a 4-door 4-banger grocery getter that only my Mom would drive. I'm not trying to offend all the rally guys out there, the Evo has it's place. I'm just saying that Mitsu needs a small 2-door sports car that can hang with the competition. I don't want a 4-door box-on-wheels. I want a high performance 2 seater or a 2+2 hatchback sports coupe.

Well then maybe you need to re-evaluate your desires there. Look at ALL the high proformance cars out there. How many come strictly in a 2 door or a 2+2 package? How many have 4 door versions that are JUST as good if not better than anything you drive? Before you start pickin somewhere you need to look at the styles and what is what. You may not EVER drive an Evo or WRX STi but that's probably 'cuz you can't handle a true perfomance machine. Looks aren't everything!

More room for u to figure out and add power yourself. I love eclipses and upgrading them, I was actually thinking about purchasing the 06 eclipse it looks really nice. Of course Id personally give it it some much needed power adjustments.

@Sanguinius:

Now that's just baiting me into an argument so I won't respond to that comment. My point is that I don't like 4-door cars. Looks may not be everything but they are at least 1/2 of it. The other half is performance and functionality.

RE: 2006 Eclipse
just to let you all know the eclipse IS NOT SPORTS CAR. just for the fact that a true sports car has no back seat period! you are compairing apples to oranges. for expl. Corvette Viper Ferrari lamborghini mclaren. So if you want true preformance stock you will stop messing with cars like 350Z eclipse and so on and switch to a 500hp and up class. hell why dont ya go out and buy a lingenfelter corvette 0-150 in 9.2 sec. what im tring to get at is stop being such a winer and when the new eclipse comes out and people start puting trubos and superchargers on them then you might change your mind but until then i would appreciate you no coming onto a forum and making a flame post.[:@]
