I dont know what it could be. It shifts fine unless i let it go above 4 grand at about 4 1/2 it clicks. I noticed it the first day i bought the car from the dealership. If anyone has any idea what the sound could be it would be great so i can take this 2000 eclipse back to the dealership and have them fix it for free since it still is under warranty. Thank you.

No i dont believe so. I think all it does is make like a loud crank type sound. Im not to sure.

 

No it isnt any harder to shift it just makes a bang sound, no loss of rpm or anything.

I havent the slightest idea on how to check that. What would that feel like?

 

just a clunk when you engage the gear i should think.

You may just have a clunky trans. Most mitsu trans are clunky.


When was the last time the trans fluid was chanded?

 

and also to add a little more frustation to the matter. It only makes the sound for a quick second then stops. Its really weird say your accelerating your at 4 you go up to 4 1/2 it makes the sound then stops the sound and contiues on to 5 without a sound.

 

I just bought the car from a dealership. its only has 60,000 miles. Its the only 5 spd ive ever had that made that kind of sound. Its nothing ive heard before. I asked the dealership when i bought the car they said they changed all fluids in the car. greased every ounce of everything and what not. I forced them into fixing the dashboard as it had some cracks in it fixed the grill and they painted while knocking off an additional 1000 from the asking price i picked the car up for 10 grand.

It would be hard to tell without pulling off the trans to check the condition of it... i dont really knwo what to tell you dude.
