Default Advice needed: Should I get a 2000 Eclipse GT with 124K miles?

I am about to purchase my first car ever for college and was looking into getting a used 2000 Eclipse GT. The one I have seen within my price range is $7000 US Dollars but has 124K miles on it. Do you think it's a good buy with that many miles on it?

Another question for all the experienced Eclipse drivers out there is whether or not a lot of problems start developing at this high mileage. I really like the car and would love to purhcase it, but the high mileage is a concern. I am planning to purchase this from a used car lot and the owner say he will offer me a 3 month/3000 mile warranty. Do you think its a go? The price sure sounds right, and I think I can probably get it down to 6500-6700 with a little pursuading. Any advice is greatly appreciated

Most of mitsubishi cars start having problems with engines at high mileage, my answer to you would be trying to get another car, with less mileage

I own a '99 Eclipse GS-T and bought it a little over 2 years ago with 45,600 miles on it...It now has only 51,100 miles on it...and 124,000 miles is a lot of mileage on a 2000..If the car was properly maintained and not beat on then the car should be fine but who knows what kind of punishment the former owner of the vehicle put it through..I'd be careful with this one especially of only having a 3 month "used car" warranty and ask if the car was put through the shop and quality checked before it was put on the lot...You can get yourself a decent 2nd generation Eclipse with lower mileage than that one for around that much.

I am a Ford certified salesman for a Ford & Mercury dealership here and we also sell used vehicles and have a good sized shop with decent technicians..We put a 12 month 12,000 mile limited warranty on our used vehicles and they are quality checked in the shop before the car is put out there for sale..The customer is also offered every opportunity to upgrade from that warranty at the time of purchase...I would be pretty leary on purchasing a used vehicle with that kind of mileage from a small "used car" lot or especially from a "Buy here, Pay here" place...I'd stay away from them and go to a dealership who has a reputable name and whose shop is also pretty known...Not all of us salesmen are criminals LOL...I hate that stereotype that I get..I'm actually a decent and honest one who is just looking for the sale, not to make my paycheck off of one vehicle..If you have any Q's on purchasing a vehicle or need some advice, feel free to message me..Good luck!
