Default Fair trade in price??

I just took my car into the local mitsu dealer looking to trade in. I have the 02 GS spyder auto and im looking to upgrade to a GT stick. The guy said he'd give me 1,500 for my car. Does that sound fair? I paid 6500 for it which i thought was a great deal, and kelly blue book says trade in value, even at fair condition (3rd lowest) with dings and scraps and rust and mechanical problems is $4,600, and mine has only a few dings and no mechanical problems. Plus the 2001 GT spyder they have is 10,900 so it would barely put a dent in the payment. What do you guys think I should do?

This was an actual dealer? And did you argue with them or let it go?

Sorry that's the salesman side of me, but you're not looking how to haggle with a dealer...

If they have the GT there for 10k then chances are that's the ballpark they'll see yours for (I'm taking it it's used andthey don't for some reason have a brand new 01 sitting in there lot)

Even to put a little into fixing yours up (you said it's in fine condition so it wouldn't take much) they would be making a very large profit... I don't understand why you couldn't get that trade innumber up...

Faulty reasoning on my part?

Well, I did try and haggle them, the GT was about 11k which seems reasonable, it has 90k miles on it.. and i explained to them that KBB said even in the poorest of conditions my trade was still worth 4,600, and 1,500 was rediculous. They told me that to get the car up to KBB value they would have to put money into it to bring it up to the excellent KBB value and blah blah. And thats the KBB price for dealerships, it says if i were to sell privately it would be like 6 grand. Which I might just end up doing..

the best bet in any case it to sell it private cause ur KBB isnt the same as the on the dealer gets but regardless u should get way more from them for ur car

I probably will sell it privately.. its just really hard to find an 3rd gen GT thats a manual anywhere.. they only had one at the dealership, and i've had no luck finding one to buy privately either. Should I put it on cars.com, ebay, or just at the road I wonder.

it depends if u live somewhere where u can put it on the road and enough people are going to see it and want to buy it if u live somewhere way out in the country then umight want to pay to have it on a website such as cars.com or u can try to put it on the road and if noone calls u in 2 weeks then list it on a site or do both at the same time
