Harmonic Balancer Removal
I need a little help guys.
My wife drives a nice '01 eclipse spyder. Yesterday, the Harmonic Balancer / Crank Pully fell off the car![:@][:'(] Problem is, only the pully part came off, not the rest of the balancer. So now it needs to be replaced. I've done this job on other cars, but not a mitsubishi. Can sombody please help? I dont see a way to mount the "normal" puller to the balancer to remove it. Do I need a special puller? Do I need to replace the crank bolt as well? (My other cars have a torque to yeild crank bolt, so it's replaced upon removal) Any help or tips you guys could provide would be greatly appreciated. I need it!!:) |
RE: Harmonic Balancer Removal
Looks like nobody could help, but I had to get the job going today. Since nobody knew, I'll post what I found:
The Harmonic balancer does not require a new crank bolt on the Eclipse. Other models mitsu's do, but not the eclipse. No puller is required either on the 6 cyl gen 3 model. Jobs dont get any easier than this one. An impact gun on the crank bolt and the balancer is off in a heartbeat. if you try to do it by han, you may have problem keeping the engine from turning. I didnt know an easy way to stop the engine, so I used the impact gun. |
RE: Harmonic Balancer Removal
I've had to do that as well... that thing was so tight that it broke socket piece being used to take it off...
